The Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs has confirmed the arrests of the Executive Mayor of the Buffalo City Metro, Councillor Zukiswa Ncita, her deputy Themba Tinta and Speaker, Councillor Luleka Simon-Ndzele.
The department says Monday's arrests were in relation to the Nelson Mandela Memorial saga, which is currently under investigation by the Department and the Hawks.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Paul Ramaloko has more.
"The Buffalo city mayor and 4 of her officials were arrested in connection with fraud, corruption and money laundering to the tune of millions. They are appearing in the Magistrates court today" he said
