Buffalo City closes central library due to "intimidation"

Buffalo City Municipality has closed the Central Library.

That's due to ongoing intimidation of staff and students trying to study at the Central Library.

Buffalo City spokesperson, Keith Ngesi, said Tuesday that on two occassions, on Monday and last Thursday, threats were made to torch the library.

He said staff have been dispatched to other libraries.

Ngesi said the Central Library will remain closed up to and including the 31 October.

Meanwhile, Buffalo City mayor, Alfred Mtsi, condemned the violent student protests in Buffalo City on Monday.

"They may have genuine reasons to fight for a particular interest but how this is done, offending other citizens, destroying the properties of other citizens and the property of the state, we don't think it is a fair way of registering our anger for certain demands," he said.

"It's a matter that we are very much concerned about.  A lot of damage has been incurred," mayor Mtsi said.
