Buffalo City Municipality is hoping the provincial government will provide a helicopter to help dissipate a pall of smoke that has been hanging over the King Williams Town area for several days.
Municipality spokesperson, Thandy Matabese, says to some extent the fire at a tip site is under control.
He says the city manager visited the area to ensure that the problem is resolved speedily and that surrounding communities are not inconvenienced too much longer.
Matabese says one young girl had to be admitted to hospital.
"The Executive mayor visited the family and also the young girl at hospital. She also issued an apology on behalf of the metro toward the affected residents. The city manager also issued a stern statement to the officials that they must do whatever it takes to make sure that the fire is under control" Matabese said.
