Gqeberha police have made a breakthrough in the murder investigation of 27-year-old Marlene Prinsloo who was fatally wounded a month ago.
Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says New Brighton SAPS arrested a 34-year-old man at his house in Joe Slovo on Friday.
On 22 June, Prinsloo and her boyfriend were sitting in his tow truck at Kings Beach when they were approached by a man who informed them that he needed assistance with his car that got stuck in the sand.
She says the man's Toyota Corolla had to be towed out and after they agreed on payment he indicated to the couple that he had no cash on him and requested them to follow him back to New Brighton for the money.
The man was accompanied by another man and two women.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says when they approached Shiya Kulati Street, the driver of the Corolla turned into Mtiya street and stopped his vehicle.
When Prinsloo's boyfriend asked for payment a shot was fired at him which struck both him and his girlfriend.
The boyfriend sped off and drove Prinsloo to a private hospital in Korsten where it was established that she had already passed away.
The driver was also admitted for treatment.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the suspect is expected to appear in the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of murder and attempted murder.
She says the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are imminent.
