The Eastern Cape Transport Ministry says the festive season provided a major boost in volumes for the Kei Rail passenger service.
Spokesperson, Ncedo Kumbaca, says there was a 58 percent growth in passenger numbers through the sale of nearly 13,000 tickets for service which runs between Mthatha and AmaBhele.
He says after only seven months in operation the Kei Rail daily passenger service has already transported a total of 62,366 passengers at at the end of December last year.
Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Tandiswa Marawu, says the passenger demand shows that Bhisho had made the right decision in getting the service back on track.
