Five people have been arrested near Grahamstown for allegedly being in posession of dagga worth an estimated half a million rand.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, says the five were arrested late yesterday afternoon after a car with four occupants was stopped during a routine operation in front of the Fort Brown police station near Grahamstown.
She says a person in the car had allegedly been communicating with someone in a bakkie, warning about the roadblock.
Police then went in search of the vehicle which was later found abandoned in bushes with 27 bags of dagga in the cabin.
Cluster commander, Vakala Moyake praised the work of the police and traffic officers involved.
