A post-mortem and DNA tests will be conducted on the body of a woman that had washed up at the beach in the Glentana area near George on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the body was already in an advanced stage of decomposition.
He said the remains had been handed over to forensic pathology services.
Police have not yet been able to say whether the incident was related to a vehicle that went off the cliff at the notorious Voëlklip lookout point near Herolds Bay a week ago.
The vehicle and the driver have not yet been found and information regarding the incident has been sketchy.
Police confirmed that they were still patrolling the area for any signs of the vehicle.
