Body of unidentified woman found in PE lake has partially visible tattoo

The body of a woman who was found lying in a lake in Port Elizabeth on Thursday last week is yet to be identified.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says to date, not a single person has come forward with any information.

The body was found in a lake behind the West End swimming pool last week, by a pastor who was visiting the ground for his morning prayers.

Naidu says the woman, who is believed to be between the ages of 15-30, was dressed in a pink nightgown and was already severely decomposed.

The victim had rings on her wedding finger and her hands and feet were bound with cable ties.

Naidu says the post mortem is still underway and a cause of death is yet to be determined.

She did, however, mention a partially visible tattoo on the victim's lower right leg.

Naidu says the tattoo is only a name which looks like either "Shelain" or "Helain".

Detectives in Bethelsdorp are urgently trying to trace the next of kin.

Anyone who can assist in identifying her is urged to contact the nearest police station.
