Body of missing toddler found near Stutterheim

An Eastern Cape woman faces a charge of murder after the body of her grandson was found in a river between Stutterheim and Mlungisi Station.

Police said today that the body of 16 month old Abukhanyisile Sitebisa was found by members of the community of Stutterheim late Tuesday afternoon.

The little boy had been missing since last month when police reported the arrest of his grandmother, Xoliswa, on a charge of child abandonment.

At the time police said that the woman allegedly abandoned the little boy in the bushes near the river because his mother was not looking after him.

Police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, says the discovery of Abukhanyisile's body, changes everything for his granny.

She was charged with child abandonment, but the charge wound now be adjusted to one of murder.
