The body of a teenager from Harrismith in the Free State who has been missing since Sunday has been found.
The 19-year-old Stefan Niewoudt left his home on Sunday evening and told his father he was going to visit a friend on a nearby farm.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Sam Makhele says on Monday Stefan's father learned that his son never arrived at his friend's house and he immediately opened a missing person report.
He says an extensive search was conducted with the help of community members who found Stefan's vehicle abandoned at the Platberg Mountain in Harrismith.
Police then asked for assistance from the K9-unit in Bethlehem who discovered the body at the foothills of the Platberg mountain at the Botanical Gardens just outside of town.
Brigadier Makhele says he was found with a gunshot wound to his head and a rifle was found on the scene.
No foul play is suspected.
