East London police have opened an inquest docket following the discovery of a body that washed up at Nahoon beach on Wednesday morning.
According to police spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi, the body was identified by the family as that of 19-year-old Emerson Noonan.
Noonan drowned at the same beach on 27 December last year.
His body was not too badly decomposed upon discovery and could be identified by family members.
Two other cases of drowning were reported in the East London area during the festive season on Eastern Beach.
The Buffalo City Municipality’s spokesperson Samnkelo Ngwenya, said both the victims were swimming while they were under the influence of alcohol.
According to a police report, an 8-year-old girl also drowned at the Gonubie beach on Sunday.
