Body of missing fisherman found near Blue Horizon Bay

Eastern Cape police have confirmed that the body of one of the eight fishermen missing after their vessel capsized on Sunday has been found in the water new Blue Horizon Bay outside Port Elizabeth.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkhohli says that the body of 43-year-old Mbongeni Zulu of Jeffreys Bay was located by the crew of another vessel, Gambit.

He said the crew retrieved Zulu's body from the water and brought it to port at St Francis Bay.

The discovery of Zulu's body brings to two, the number of confirmed fatalities after the Maredon ran aground and capsized in stormy seas off Thyspunt at Cape St Francis early on Sunday morning.

Seven fishermen survived the horrific ordeal but the search for the remaining seven missing fishermen is continuing.

Meanwhile, police have called for volunteers to assist in conducting shore patrols as the search for the other seven continues along the coast between Ashton Bay and Paradise Beach near Jeffreys Bay.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli says volunteers have already joined the search for the missing men, but he says members of the public can still volunteer and contact Captain Johan du Toit of the St Francis Bay police, who is co-ordinating the search, on 071 475 1831.
