Eastern Cape police have opened an inquest docket, following the discovery of the body of Warrant Officer Nosipho Mphakathi in Port St Johns.
The 40-year-old police official was last seen by her son on 8 December when she left her homestead at Tyibane locality in Port St Johns.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci says her body was retrieved from the Mzimvubu River near the town on Saturday afternoon.
She says the body was seen floating by the owner of a lodge who raised the alarm.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
