Body of guide retrieved in Storms river

NSRI

Police in the Eastern Cape have opened up an inquest docket after the body of a river guide was found in the Storms River in Tsitsikamma.

A spokesperson for the NSRI Craig Lambinon says their Plettenberg Bay team was alerted on Saturday night when a team of nine people consisting of two river guides did not return from their paddle on their rafts in the Storms River.

He says eventually eight of the members of the group arrived at the rendezvous location and informed officials that one of the river guides had fallen into the water.

Lambinon says the group managed to pull him out of the water and performed CPR for an extended period, but to no avail.

He says on Sunday morning their Oyster Bay team was activated to assist police, and rangers from SANParks to retrieve the body.

Lambinon says the operation commenced at first light on Sunday and the body of the 31-year-old guide was retrieved.

The body of the man whose identity has not yet been released was handed over to the provincial pathology services.
