The National Sea Rescue Institute in Port Elizabeth says its duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority on Friday, following reports from a Chokka fishing boat about a body they had come across floating in the water, 15 nautical miles South West of Cape Recife and 1 nautical mile off-shore.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says a rescue craft, accompanied by police divers, recovered the body of a man from the sea.
He says the body was brought to Port Elizabeth where it was handed to the the Forensic Pathology Service.
Lambinon says police have opened an inquest docket.
The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
