Former tennis champion Bob Hewitt said that he tried to give "fatherly love" to one of the women who have accused him of rape and indecent assault.
Testifying in his trial on Thursday, he told the Johannesburg High Court sitting in Palm Ridge, that he had a closer relationship with Theresa "Twiggy" Tolken than with any of his other students.
He said he felt sorry for her because he didn't think that she was getting any love from her father.
On Monday Token testified that Hewitt had sexually assaulted her when she was 12 years old.
Seventy-five-year-old Hewitt has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and one of indecent assault.
