Two suspended Bitou municipal officials who allegedly sold government houses to local residents could face criminal charges.
Garden Route Media reports that after completing an internal investigation, the municipality at Plettenberg Bay reported the matter to local police this week.
Approved government housing beneficiaries, who have been waiting since 2007 for their homes, claim the municipal officials sold houses earmarked for them to residents not on the official housing list.
Municipal spokesman Kholiswa Masiza says the municipality has completed its internal investigation into the matter and reported the findings to the Kwanokuthula police.
A disciplinary process against the officials is also currently underway.
