The Bhisho Transport Ministry says its decision to contract directly with individual taxi operators to provide scholar transport this year, has been vindicated by a ruling in the Bhisho High Court.
Department spokesperson, Ncedo Kumbaca, says the Court granted the Department of Transport permission on Tuesday to continue with its plans to contract directly with individual public transport operators, despite the legal challenge from taxi association, Uncedo.
Last year, the Bhisho Transport Department said it had decided not to out source the management of the scholar transport programme.
Kumbaca says the court ruling means they can now proceed and contract with individual transport operators.
"We believe that in order for us to improve service, we need to cut the middle man. We are not going to have a situation again where we are going to contract a person who will manage the program on our behalf. Come the 21st of January, the kids who qualify for the programme will be transported without any problems" he said
