A Butterworth man who attacked his girlfriend after accusing her of cheating, has been jailed for an effective six years.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says Sakhikhaya Mafumana, was sentenced in the town's regional court on Monday.
He was earlier found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Manatha says Mafumana first attacked his 32-year-old girlfriend last August, beating her with a stick.
Several days later he attacked and stabbed her.
Mafumana was sentenced to a total of seven years in jail, with the magistrate ordering one year of his sentence ordered to run concurrently.
