The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape says Bhisho squanders R1.5b annually on surplus teachers.
DA leader in the Bhisho legislature, Bobby Stevenson says that's despite an undertaking by the Premier two years ago to "move with speed" to deal with the situation.
He says over a two year period this has amounted to R3.19b in wasteful expenditure.
Stevenson says it was revealed in a reply to a question in the legislature that there are more than 6 000 surplus teachers who need to be redeployed to schools where they are needed.
"The Premier needs to take the lead and insure that the re-assignment of teachers actually starts to take place, we know that tough decisions have to be made in this regard. She made a commitment in her 2011 state of the province address and we now need action" Stevenson said.
