Billabong South Africa says its currently facing a challenging market environment and has done so for the past few years.
Billabong SA General Manager Ernest Bendeman says in a statement that Billabong will need to continue to improve its operating efficiencies and right size the business to ensure it remains viable.
Bendemen confirmed to AlgoaFM News that Billabong at Jeffrey's Bay has initiated discussions with staff regarding its future structure.
He says they're confident they'll achieve a positive outcome, which will provide longevity, employment and opportunities for future growth.
Bendeman refuted reports that as many as 82 staff members at its Jeffrey's Bay operation were retrenched.
He told AlgoaFM news that this number was not accurate as 31 new posts were also being created.
He said the outcome was not yet final as everything was being done to help reduce the final number of retrenchments.
