A biker who got arrested outside George over the weekend for allegedly running over a provincial traffic officer has been granted bail.
The 50-year-old David Jacobs, who is a former police captain, spent two days in custody and appeared in the George Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he was granted bail of R500.
Ons Saturday Jacobs and two other riders were pulled over on the N2 near Swartvlei between Wildnerness and Sedgefield for allegedly overtaking on a solid barrier line.
It is alleged that Jacobs tried to flee the scene and in the process drove over a traffic officer.
He is being charged with attempted murder and reckless and negligent driving.
Jacobs will be back in court on the 4th of March.
