Eastern Cape Education MEC, Mandla Makupula, will announce details of several issues affecting education in the province, including how it intends dealing with teacher shortages.
Its been reported that the Department has gone, cap in hand, to the Treasury for money to hire teachers to fill critical vacancies across the province.
Makupula will address the media in East London on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance in the province says seeking additional funding to appoint more teachers, instead of redeploying current excess teachers, will not bring an end to the education crisis in the province.
DA MPL, Edmund van Vuuren, says it is a futile exercise.
"I believe there are enough teachers within the system and this will only perpetuate the situation where these teachers who are in excess will remain in school and not be re-assigned to where they are needed" van Vuuren said.
