Bhisho Hospital will be the recipient of the first CPAP machines on Wednesday as Gift of the Givers races against time to install the oxygen delivery apparatus into numerous hospitals, clinics and ambulance services in the Eastern Cape.
Gift of the Givers recently created a 120-bed dedicated Covid-19 facility at Bhisho Hospital and are currently on site at the same institution, working through the festive season to complete a R3 million upgrade of doctors quarters to increase staff retention.
Bisho Hospital CEO, Sister Phumla Mnyanda, will be on site to receive these oxygen devices on Wednesday afternoon.
Gift of the Givers says deliveries across the province will then continue to Frere Hospital, Cecilia Makawane, Lady Grey, SS Gida and Fort Beaufort.
Additional devices will be transported to Gift of the Givers head office in Pietermaritzburg and onwards from there to facilities in KZN, Gauteng and North West.
Northern Cape requests will be accommodated in due course.
The CPAP devices have been designed by the SA National Ventilator Group, SA Radio Astronomy Observatory, manufactured by CSIR, certified by SAHPRA and funded by the Solidarity Fund.
Gift of the Givers is providing logistical support and delivering these machines across the country where request has been approved.
The relief organisation has 12000 such devices at its disposal.
