The Eastern Cape Health Department says it remains committed to paying outstanding payments to health care workers across the province which have led to an illegal strike in Mthatha and threats of strikes elsewhere.
Health Department spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, says MEC, Sicelo Gqobana, met employees at Mthatha General Hospital on Monday where he gave them an undertaking regarding the payment process.
He says this process will be rolled out across the province to meet the department's commitment to paying backlogs to staff members as soon as possible.
However, Kupelo says employees should ensure that their documentation has been completed properly.
"We have started the payment process, already over 500 files will be processed and paid tomorrow with people getting their money in their banks on Monday the 12th, however incomplete files might derail the processes so it is important for people to look at their forms whether they were assessed and signed by themselves and their supervisors" Kupelo said.
