The Eastern Cape government said it would be advertising for expressions of interest for potential investors to be part of a provincial cannabis database.

This was one of several decisions taken at a recent meeting of the Eastern Cape Executive.

Bhisho said it would also follow up engagements with potential Canadian investors interested in the Eastern Cape Cannabis Industry Development, while also lobbying for the fast-tracking of legislation for the industry.

“Government will support the development of licensed growing facilities in the Special Economic Development Zones and industrial parks with signed letters of intent from investors,” the provincial government said in a statement on Thursday.

The Eastern Cape Government said it would also create a conducive environment for all farmers with permits and licenses, coordinate applications for cultivation and processing permits and facilitate smooth interaction between investors and producers to ensure mutual beneficiation that will protect and sustain the industry.

“Government has established the Cannabis Technical Advisory Panel to support the efforts to develop this industry,” the statement said.
