Eastern Cape Local Government and Traditional Affairs MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane has strongly condemned the recent violence and destruction during protests in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
His office says in a strongly-worded statement that the violence is akin to actions of a military junta, and not peace loving South Africans.
Qoboshiyane says burning people's homes, public property, blocking roads and attacking communities is not a panacea to the challenges people face.
Instead, it is conduct that the police must root out of society.
Qoboshiyane says Bhisho will assess how the violence affects the functioning of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, and consider various constitutional provisions to see what options there are to resolve the situation.
