The Eastern Cape government has condemned the weekend attack on Buffalo City’s Acting Municipal Manager, Nceba Ncunyana.
According to a police statement, the attack on Ncunyana took place on Friday when a gunman emerged from a VW Polo and fired shots at the Acting City Manager, while his security detail returned fire.
Provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said Ncunyana was wounded in the arm, while the gunman fled.
No arrests have yet been made and a case of attempted murder is under investigation. It's reportedly the second attack on Ncunyana.
The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Zolile Williams, said on Monday that "municipal officials across the Province must not be intimidated nor be shot at when they are executing their tasks".
He called on communities to provide information to the police that will assist them in tracking down the perpetrators.
