Eastern Cape Education MEC, Fundile Gade, said all learner support materials will be delivered to schools by the 30th of November.
He was speaking in East London on Wednesday, during an oversight visit to a warehouse in Wilsonia where learner support materials for schools are kept and distributed.
The MEC gave the assurance that the problems experienced last year, including court challenges against the late delivery of learner support materials to some schools, “were a thing of the past.”
Gade said that 98% of textbooks have been delivered to schools, with workbooks and stationery delivery also on track in terms of their delivery deadlines.
“We wanted to make sure that by 15 November, at least we have surpassed the percentage and the target that we set for ourselves so that between 15 and 30 November we are doing a mop-up so that come the closure of schools we are no longer talking about learner support material delivered to schools,” the MEC said.
He said the Department of Basic Education was making sure that by 30 November, all schools would have also received their workbooks and stationery supplies.
“Systems are going very well from where I’m sitting,” the Education MEC said.
