Employers in the Eastern Cape reportedly have the strongest hiring intentions for the first quarter of next year.
This is according to the Manpower Group Employment Outlook Survey Q1 2019.
The survey revealed that opportunities for job seekers were expected to be strongest in the wholesale and retail trade sector and weakest within the manufacturing sector around the country.
ManpowerGroup SA Managing Director, Lyndy van den Berselaar, said employers in four of five regions expect to increase payrolls during the upcoming quarter.
She said the strongest labour market is anticipated in the Eastern Cape where the Net Employment Outlook stands at +8%.
“The Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (in EC) indicated in a report in October that there had been steady growth in sectors such as agro-processing, energy, general manufacturing, and pharmaceutical products,” said Van Den Barselaar.
“The report also found that the automotive sector remains the Eastern Cape’s leading exporter. This positive growth could mean that businesses will need to take on additional employees in the coming quarter,” she explained.
Overall the survey revealed that South African employers reported conservative hiring intentions for Q1, 2019.
