The Buffalo City Metro says it is still continuing with operations to ensure that food premises comply with health and safety regulations.
It says it visited more than 20 shops in ward 47, Quigney on Friday and nine shops were closed for various reasons.
20 were issued with compliance notices.
The shops include a shop selling water, a laundromat, a beauty salon, a panel beater and a place of entertainment.
The Metro says during the operation, food that was unfit for human consumption, including infant milk products, expired beans, peas and corned meat was seized at Spaza shops.
The Municipality is checking for health and safety compliance, environmental and hygiene standards, license conditions, and tax and emigration status.
