Buffalo City Municipality has introduced tighter water restrictions as consumption remains high.
The Municipality said on Monday that it would be “implementing Stage 3 of water restrictions” due to the ongoing drought and that these carry punitive tariffs.
Stages 1 and 2 water restrictions and punitive tariffs were introduced as early as November 2019, but Municipal spokesperson, Samkelo Ngwenya, said consumption has not changed.
He says this means that any water consumption above 20 kilolitres in 30 days will be subjected to higher tariffs.
Ngwenya says as at January, 77% of their registered billing queries were water-related.
