Buffalo City Mayor, Xola Pakati, has apologised to residents and businesses in King Williams Town and the East London CBD for the inconvenience caused by protests on Tuesday.
He says he acknowledges that businesses had to close due to the mass action by municipal workers which turned violent.
Mayor Pakati also apologised for the increased presence of police in areas around the city including the use of stun grenades. He says it created a tense environment which inconvenienced other people.
He has appealed to municipal workers to exercise their rights within the law.
Pakati says it is their understanding that the strike, by members of SAMWU is illegal as no dispute has been declared.
