Developers of the super-regional Baywest Mall on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth say they're confident of meeting their opening deadline of the 21st of May.
General Manager, Sonja de Necker, says they're upping the ante among the region’s retailers with the introduction of major high-end brands to the province.
She also hinted at a media briefing on Wednesday of further announcements of large offerings from international brands.
De Necker says between 80% and 85% of their tenants will be trading on opening day, while the Mall is already 96% let.
She says investments by their tenants shows confidence in the Mall in particular - and in the region in general.
"Progress on site is tremendous at the moment. Almost 90 shops have taken occupation and are busy with shop fitting, the rest of them will do so in the next week or two. The major anchors, other national tenants and the investment shows us a lot of confidence in the Eastern Cape region's economy, they are investing millions and we are very happy that they are doing that within the Baywest Mall model." says De Necker.
