Bay teen killed after being hit by two vehicles

Police in Gqeberha are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a teenager was killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident on Saturday.

A spokesperson for police Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says they were called out to the Leticia Bam Day hospital in Kwanobuhle after a 16-year-old victim was brought in by a motorist in the early evening.

She says the man alleged that he was driving behind a Quantum minibus on 1st Avenue when it hit the female pedestrian without stopping.

The driver said that he too struck the patient with the left front side of his vehicle before he stopped to assist.

Captain Janse van Rensburg says the teenager died at the hospital and was identified as Lindokuhle Mpandla.

Police are also urging any eyewitnesses to come forward with information that could help in their investigation.

Janse van Rensburg says they are also investigating the death of 38-year-old Precious Chosa on Saturday who was a passenger in a silver Datsun Go.

She says the accident happened shortly after 10 am on the R75 towards Kirkwood, just before the Blue Cliff turnoff.

It is alleged that the driver, with two passengers on board, lost control of his vehicle before it overturned and collided with an oncoming taxi.

Janse van Rensburg says the taxi driver and his 14 passengers sustained minor injuries.
