A man from Cape Town who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend inside his car, while driving, is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi says police were busy with patrols at Monwabesi Beach when they spotted a black VW Golf with two occupants engaged in an argument.
He says as they approached the vehicle the female passenger jumped out of the moving car when the driver sped off.
One member attended to the woman while the other chased the driver who eventually stopped his car to flee on foot.
WO Swartbooi says he was arrested and detained on a charge of assault to inflict grievous bodily harm.
