The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber welcomed the opening of a state-of-the-art facility by a local steel company on Friday supplying the automotive sector.

The Chamber said the investment, with funding from the IDC, enabled BK Steel and Profiles in Deal Party, to reposition itself as one of the leading steel-cutting businesses in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The company caters to customers in the industrial automation sector and the automotive tool sector in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, KwaZulu Natal, and Gauteng.

CEO, Shenny Naidoo said their “venture into the steel cutting business in the Metro signifies not just growth but a commitment to excellence and innovation in serving their clientele.”

“This significant expansion not only elevates our capabilities but also creates opportunities for job growth.

“Our primary focus lies in enhancing the supply chain within the automotive and industrial automation sectors,” Naidoo said.

He said the company’s expansion would not have been possible without the invaluable support of the Industrial Development Corporation, which provided “a substantial capital injection” to procure a state-of-the-art Steel Laser Cutting Machine and Table Saw Machine.

Eastern Cape Finance and Economic Development MEC, Mlungisi Mvoko also paid tribute to the company for its investment, saying the government's role was to create an enabling environment for business to grow.

Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber chief executive Denise van Huyssteen applauded BK Steel and Profiles for its forward-thinking approach and commitment to making a positive impact on the local economy.

“This investment helps to further develop and strengthen the company’s steel solutions capabilities, thus providing increased capacity and opportunity to grow their business.

“Very importantly it will provide an option to businesses to procure steel cutting services locally, thereby helping to retain and attract much needed local employment opportunities.”

“We welcome the Industrial Development Corporation’s support to BK Steel, and also their commitment to supporting the sustainability and growth of local businesses,” Van Huysteen said.
