A police officer attached to the Gelvandale Police station was gunned down in the Northern areas of Gqeberha on Tuesday.
Spokesperson for the Hawks Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said the officer was murdered by unknown suspects.
He told Algoa FM News that they could not divulge any further details in the ongoing investigation.
The name of the deceased officer may not be made public at this stage.
The Acting Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Brigadier Fernando Luis is appealing to the community to continue assisting in the investigation to make a swift arrest.
