Eastern Cape police have identified the prison warder who was killed when 11 prisoners escaped from the Barkly East Correctional Centre over the weekend.
Provincial police spokesperson, major Ernest Sigobe, says he was 54-year-old Mzolisi Dusubana.
He was shot dead when 11 prisoners, who took several guards hostage late on Saturday afternoon broke out of the prison. Four other prison guards were injured during the break-out.
Police arrested four of the escapees on neighbouring farms in the Barkly East area while
Sigobe says seven prisoners remain on the run and are considered to be armed and dangerous.
