Four people charged with a double murder in Peddie in the Eastern Cape in April, have been denied bail in the town’s magistrate’s court.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Nomvula Zodwa, Lwando Lengisi, Ayabulela Mahokoto and Thamsanqa Hlamandana, were charged with murder and conspiracy to murder 74-year-old Boniswa Toba and 41-year-old Cingiswa Mila.
NPA spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, said the deceased were the wife and daughter-in-law of former Eastern Cape police Provincial Commissioner, Wilson Toba.
She said in denying bail on Friday, magistrate Luvuyo Masiso., said there was a strong case against all the accused who also pointed out the seriousness of the offences.
Zodwa, Lengisi, Mahokoto and Hlamandana are charged with two counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. One suspect is still at large.
Zodwa, a former police Captain, was allegedly romantically involved with Mila’s 55-year-old husband.
Ngcakani said the four would be back in court again in August.
