An East London man accused of killing his girlfriend in her flat in Amalinda earlier this year has been denied bail in the city's magistrate's court.
Fifty-year-old Ayanda Matika has been in custody since he was arrested in Cape Town in March for the murder of 37-year-old Busisiwe Ngwadla.
The mother of one was stabbed 13 times.
During his bail hearing, Matika told the court that he had blacked out after stabbing Ngwadla when she had verbally abused him.
In his ruling on Monday, Magistrate Luyanda Gobinga said Matika failed to prove exceptional circumstances to be granted bail, adding that his claim that he blacked out, made no sense.
Gobinga also said that it would not be in the public interest if he was released.
He will appear in the same court for a trial date on Tuesday.
