Fourteen awaiting trial prisoners were among 18 people injured in a collission between a police vehicle and a truck on the N-2 outside Port Elizabeth lon Wednesday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Alwin Labans, says the police vehicle was transporting the prisoners from court back to St Albans prison when it was forced to pull over because of a flat tyre.
He says the police vehicle was then hit by a truck on its side.
Labans says a driver and an assistant as well as two police members were also injured.
He says the injured prisoners are under police guard in hospital.
