Two awaiting trial prisoners escaped from the George Prison in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies identified the escapees as 32-year-old Calisto Chaderek and 37-year-old Trevor Moliwa.
Spies said the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated and he could not say how the two escaped.
Chaderek is a Zimbabwean citizen who was in custody on charges of housebreaking and theft, while Moliwa, a South African, was in custody on charges of possession of a firearm and possession of stolen items.
Spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Candice van Reenen confirmed the incident.
