Awaiting trial prisoner raped in Mossel Bay Correctional centre

The Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating the alleged rape a 19-year-old awaiting trial prisoner at the Mossel Bay Correctional Centre.
The man, who is originally from Knysna, is awaiting trial on a charge of robbery.
The Department of Correctional Services was not immediately available for comment.
The victim was asleep when he was woken up by four other inmates. They allegedly choked and assaulted him and took turns to rape him. The teenager suffered internal injuries as well as injuries to his neck.
The four suspects will appear in the Mossel Bay magistrate court on Wednesday on charges of rape.
