A 33-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly tried to rob a shop in Jeffreys Bay with a toy gun.
A police spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohil says the suspect initially posed as a customer and bought cigarettes at the store.
He says moments later, he returned to the shop and held the owner at gunpoint.
Sergeant Nkohli says the owner was alert and noticed that the suspect was pulling the trigger but that no shots were going off.
The owner took a chance and decided to fight the suspect and a struggle ensued.
Sergeant Nkohli says a security guard came to assist and an arrest was made.
The man is expected to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrates Court on Wednesday on a charge of attempted robbery.
