Three men who robbed a hardware store in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, were arrested by members of the public, just moments after an armed robbery in Heugh Road.
Police Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says on Thursday at about 12.30 pm the men entered the store and threatened the cashier, who was alone in the office at the time.
She says the men, who were armed with guns and knives, demanded money and her personal cellphone.
As the suspects were fleeing, people from a neighbouring business saw them and pursued. An Atlas security vehicle in the vicinity then joined in the chase.
The suspects were arrested at the corners of Albert Street and 5th avenue and handed over to police.
Two firearms with serial numbers filed off were recovered as well as a bag with the stolen money.
The suspects between the ages of 20 and 35 will appear in court on Tuesday where they will face several charges.
