At least two people were confirmed to have died following a horror accident between a passenger bus and a fuel tanker in the Eastern Cape on Monday.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said the crash occurred on the N2 near Kwelera, between East London and Kei Bridge.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said the bus with passengers was travelling towards East London and the tanker was heading in the opposite direction when they collided.
He says the circumstances surrounding the cause of the accident are still unknown.
Buffalo City Municipality noted in a statement that emergency services personnel were able to rescue and free dozens of passengers from the wreck and they were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.
