A warrant has been issued for the immediate arrest of a woman who submitted a false claim against the Road Accident Fund.
Nothombi Simanga, who lives in Gugulethu in Cape Town, failed to respond when her name was called on Monday, in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Bellville.
She was due to make her fifth appearance on a charge of fraud, before magistrate Sabrina Sonnenberg.
At her first appearance on July 22, she requested free legal representation, and legal aid lawyer Harley Cloete appeared for her.
At Mondayâs proceedings, State advocate Simone Liedeman requested a warrant for her immediate arrest, after Cloete told the court she had not been in touch with him.
It is alleged that she lodged a false claim for R10 000 against the RAF, for injuries suffered after being knocked over as a pedestrian in Gugulethu four years ago.
In her claim form, she falsely stated that she had been in the employ of the company Edcon (Pty) Ltd at the time.
Investigations revealed that neither the police nor the ambulance services had any record of the incident, and that neither had been called to the accident scene.
She did, however, consult a medical practitioner eight days later, for a medical report, but failed to inform the doctor that she had been knocked over by a car.
The prosecutor alleges that she fabricated the incident.
