Armed robbery suspects arrested in PE

Port Elizabeth police arrested three armed robbery suspects within an hour after a fast food outlet was robbed in Circular Drive on Friday evening.

Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the outlet was robbed by two men at gunpoint at around 6-30pm.

She says one suspect requested a bottle of water and as the attendant went to fetch it, he pulled out a firearm and demanded cash.

Naidu says the panic button was activated and the suspects ran out.

She says video footage showed that they got into a silver VW Polo.

After viewing the footage, the Flying Squad and K9 members went in search of the vehicle, and not long after, the vehicle was spotted in Parliament Street in Central.

Police blocked off the road and the suspected vehicle was cornered in Lawrence Road.

Col. Naidu says three suspects were arrested at the scene, and police recovered some of the stolen cash, as well as a toy gun which was found in the vehicle.

The suspects aged between 20 and 26 are being detained on a charge of armed robbery, and will appear in court on Monday.
