Three gunmen held up staff at Silver Cloud Spur in Cape Road in Port Elizabeth.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the gunmen struck just before 10 pm on Wednesday night.
She says one suspect entered the restaurant and pretended to ask a waitress about a person.
Naidu says he was joined by two other gunmen, one of who entered the restaurant with the two security guards who had been held at gunpoint outside.
She says they robbed the staff of cellphones and personal belongings before emptying out the cash register of a substantial, but undisclosed amount of cash.
Naidu says they fled in a Nissan bakkie and remain at large.
A month ago a group of five pastors were robbed at gunpoint during a regular business meeting at the same Spur.
